Dr Roby V Abeles, MA, Psy.D

imageIn 1985, Roby began her own conscious spiritual journey and recovery from alcoholism and addiction, a journey that has continued to unfold and become the focus of her life.

She has a specialty Bachelor’s Degree in chemical dependency counselling (1989), and was trained in individual and group addiction counselling at the world famous Betty Ford Centre in America where she worked in the late 1980’s.

Roby went on to get specialty training in trauma and abuse counselling as she saw that most of her clients with addictions had experienced traumas and abuse as children and/or young adults. Many had multiple trauma and abuse histories.

For several years, while living in Southern California, she worked in the emergency response department at a County funded child abuse protection unit.

She has been in private practice since 1998 and from 2006-2007 she took intensive training in Group Facilitation through the Phoenix Rising Organisation in Australia. So, in essence she has come back to her original counselling roots, group therapy.

In 2007, she became a Co-Founder of The Sanctuary ~ Lane Cove in Sydney where she now co-facilitates group therapy weekends and longer intensives.

Roby has been on the faculty in the Masters Programme in Counselling Psychology at California State University and is currently an educator in Sydney at The Australian College of Applied Psychology.

'I am constantly in awe of the courage, commitment and compassion of my clients as they move forward in their lives. My clients always inspire me.’
