Psychotherapy Experience and Training
I am not able to take new therapy clients at the moment, but I am taking Supervision and Consultation clients.
I began using EMDR in 1996 as I was looking for a way to help trauma survivors heal - not just get better, but fully heal on all four levels of consciousness; Mental, Physical, Emotional and Spiritual, so that they could reclaim their right to a fully lived passionate life where they are able to connect to themselves as well as socially & intimately with others, participate within their wider community if they choose to, give of themselves in service to others and be a global citizen, interested in the rest of the bigger world and all this comfortably and with confidence.
What I had been doing - traditional talk therapy, gestalt work, ego state work, DID help but not as deeply and fully as I wanted and believed was possible. I wanted to take trauma, disrupted attachment & addictions therapy from helping "victims" be "survivors" to taking them all the way to THRIVERS. I deeply wanted to be able to offer my clients COMPLETE healing, where they could also find meaning in what had happened to them and take the "silver lining" in it all and be able to see their issues as blessings in disguise. In other words, complete the whole trauma cycle and move them from being constantly pulled into the trauma vortex to easily and consciously choosing the healing vortex - to become Masters of their Universe.
Sounds crazy, I know, but that's what I was going for !
After the basic training I took ongoing training in other advanced EMDR techniques. I took the Strategic Developmental Model of EMDR training in 2000, and this helped even my most traumatised clients process their issues much more easily and without undue distress. It helped them catch-up developmentally - overwhelming life events shock us into survival mode and TRAUMA is when we get stuck there - when we're in this we can't continue to develop emotionally and in other ways as we are supposed to. We are in many ways frozen at the time the event happened. Our bodies grow up but important other parts of us cannot.
Since then I've gone on to study further techniques which further enhance the EMDR experience, which have given my clients the ability to more fully take their right to a fully lived passionate life back.
In 1996 I graduated with a Masters Degree in Spiritual Psychology. This means I then had the understanding of the importance of the Inner Journey we are on and how to support my clients in reconnecting with that inside themselves. This took my work to a whole new and deeper level.
I then took training in Brainspotting (BSP) and Somatic Experiencing (SE). These amazing therapies help my clients resolve trauma and overwhelming life experiences from conception through to present day, both at a deep brain level (BSP) and on a physical biological level (SE) - removing anxiety and stuck body memories (left over from incompleted fight/flight/freeze responses) from their Nervous System.
At this point I am not able to take any new clients. I can make referrals for you though to other great EMDR therapists.
OTHERWISE: Due to extended travel commitments I only take clients on an very short-term intensive basis. This means I see my clients for anywhere from 3-5 hours per day for 3-5 days straight. I do this so my interstate clients can have maximum benefit in a short amount of time, and so my client’s therapy isn't interrupted by my frequent and at times lengthy travel commitments. After an intensive therapy week, I would refer you to another EMDR therapist in your area if at that point you would like to continue your healing work. Or we could make arrangements to continue in another Intensive session at another time suited to us both.
